ValdostaConnect.com is an online social and business networking community that is fast becoming the number one website for current residents, far away natives, and Valdosta State University alumni. Members are provided a free profile with which they can find old friends and make new ones, promote themselves, their business, church, or organization.
Members are connecting locally, from across the country, and from around the world. A lawyer in New York, VSU alumni in Atlanta, a military family in Japan and Kuwait, and a film producer in London all have something in common. Valdosta, a place where they grew up, went to high school, went to college, served at Moody A.F.B., visited, or currently reside. Many members are reconnecting after being out of touch with each other for 5, 10, and even 20 or more years.
ValdostaConnect.com was founded by Eric D. Jackson, a local native who graduated from Valdosta High School and Valdosta State University. The website was launched in November 2007 and boasts well over 1000 members. It is Web 2.0 at its best. This means that members can interact with each other and contribute content such as music, videos, and photos to share with their friends only or the entire community. Members can also join a group, post a blog, or start a discussion forum.
Connecting to each other is not limited to the Internet. Recently Sharper Entertainment connected members with an event in Atlanta. VSU Alumni are planning a barbeque on June 14, in Fairburn, Georgia. There are several high school reunions being planned: Valdosta High School Class of 1983’s 25th reunion, and VHS Class of 1988, 89, 90’s 20th reunion. On October 9th some members will be cruising to the Bahamas.
ValdostaConnect.com is moderated to maintain a family friendly environment and provides a guide concerning online safety.
