Member Policy

Attention all ValdostaConnect.com Members. Please read the following important information concerning our membership policy on ValdostaConnect.

1. Please Read our Online Safety and Privacy Guide.

As a member of an online community, you will need to be concerned about your online safety and privacy. All members can see certain parts of this website, so please get an understanding about the areas that are visible to all members and those that are not. Read the Online Safety Guide | Join the Online Safety Group

2. Real Name and Email Address – No Nicknames

We provide ValdostaConnect.com membership as a free service, and spend a great deal of time moderating the website to provide a family friendly environment. All members of our network must maintain a profile with a Real Name and valid email address. We created this website as a social and business network. Connecting with each other becomes difficult if members are using nicknames. While we understand that you may not feel comfortable using your full name, please be aware that you can use your first name, last name, or first and last initials. Also you may include a nick name within your page profile. Members who do not abide by this policy will be disqualified from receiving contest giveaways and prizes. Email addresses must not begin with “www.” Also upon our discretion we may suspend/ban your account if you do not maintain a valid email address or use a real name.
3. No SPAM on Member Profile, Calendar, Site Messages, Forums, and Blogs

Do not copy and past graphic or text advertisments on member profile pages, calendar events, site messages, forums, and blogs. We want members to log in and view comments and mail messages from their friends and from people who truly want to network with them. We do not want members to log in and see a page full of ads on their own profile page. This includes promotion of club events, music events, political candidates, house parties where fees are charged, social affairs, etc.

* If your page has been spammed, please contact Eric Jackson

4. Advertise in designated areas.

Members who have purchased certain upgraded membership may advertised in designated areas (according to the purchased member plan): Your own profile page, Business Directory, Groups, Event Calendar

Even with an upgraded membership, advertising is not permitted in the following ways:
- No ads are to be sent to members via site message, unless a member requests information.
- No ads are to be posted in comments on other members’ profile pages.
- No ads are to be posted on the Event Calendar unless it is an actual event. For example, and event that only has a business name and contact information, and a picture of some shoes and a phone number is not acceptable.
- No ads are to be posted in Blogs and Forums (if you have purchased a member plan that allows advertising in these areas, please understand that you may only included your business contact information. Your blog or fourm post must not soley be an advertisement. For Example a Blog or Forum posts that only includes your business name and contact information is not allowed; however a helpful article along with you contact information is definitely acceptable).

5. ValdostaConnect is a Family Friendly website.

In order to grow our website to a very successful level that will benefit our entire community, we must maintain an environment that’s best suited for general audiences. Since our launch in November of 2007, we have promoted ourselves as being a Family Friendly Website. In fact, we feel that our policy is one of the reasons for the overwhelming popularity of this website. The best way to describe ValdostaConnect’s family friendly policy, is that everything posted to this website should be as clean as reading a newspaper.

Profiles and all posted content must not contain:

- Profanity
- Slanderous information
- Promotion of criminal and unlawful activity
- Promotion of alcohol, tobacco, firearns
- Images of nudity, or those of a very revealing nature
- Images showing alcoholic beverages or smoking
- Language that is insensitive to other people’s race, gender, faith, financial status, zip code, etc.
- Links to external websites that includes content not acceptable for posting on ValdostaConnect
- Embeded music with Profanity, lyrics that promote criminal or unlawful activities, lyrics that are sexually explicit

We will continue to review our website and member profiles to ensure that all content is Family Friendly. Please report any violation of the policy (simply fill out our contact form with a brief description.)

If you receive a “Clean Up” notice from us, please understand that in order for us to grow our online community to the next level of success, we need to secure sponsorships and advertisements. This will benefit the entire community and provide us with the capital to add more features, services, and extend our marketing campaign. This will attract MORE members (something we all want).

6. The importance of your username (email address)

We are asking all members to check “my settings” and verify that the email address you have selected as your username is one that you use regularly. We have received numerous requests for new accounts from members who can’t log in due to the fact that when they originally signed up, they selected an email address that:

- is bogus
- not valid (not in the proper format- an email address should not begin with “www”)
- is not used on a regular basis or that was registered on the fly and one never intends to check

Please note that if you are having any kind of issue and contact us we respond to the email address that you have selected as your username. Also if you need to reset your password you will need to enter the original email address that you signed up with.
