About Author

Hello, my name is Eric Jackson. I am the author of this website and creator of ValdostaConnect.com. I hope that the information that I have provided on this  website helps you to network with members of the Valdosta-Lowndes metropolitan community.

I was born and raised in Valdosta, Georgia. I graduated from Valdosta High School class of 1988, and have two degrees from Valdosta State University. I obtained a B.S. in biology in 1993 and a Masters of Education in instructional technology in 2006. While obtaining my undergraduate degree at VSU, I became a member of the Mu Omicron chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity, Inc.

I currently live and work in the community. Feel free to contact me to introduce yourself or to send your questions and comments.

Leaving  and Returning to Valdosta

Like many I moved from Valdosta for better career opportunities. I left town in 1995, two years after graduating from VSU and moved to the northern Virginia – Washington DC area. I came back to Valdosta briefly and moved again in 1999 to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

In South Florida, I worked for a dotcom Internet company in Boca Raton, but in 2001 the company, like so many at the time, bankrupted. I moved back to Valdosta in 2002.

My Roots

My family has lived in Lowndes County, Georgia since before Valdosta was chartered as a city. This lineage of my family were Freedmen and were  listed in the 1850 census…Continue >>

Social Photographer

I really enjoy connecting with people and capturing special moments with photography. My dad provided a great example of how to preserve family memories. I grew up in a home with pictures that covered the walls. My dad had several thick photo albums full of pictures of me an my brothers as babies and toddlers. He also saved photos of himself as a teen, and during his time in the Army.

My first camera was an Oatmeal Box Pinhole camera that I made in Mr. Ptchford’s class at Valdosta Junior High School (now known as Valdosta Middle). Although I didn’t quite get the hang of taking pictures with this simple camera (I believe I was over exposing the film), I had so much fun that it later inspired me to buy a Polaroid Instant Camera. I moved on to a kodak 35 mm, then just started using disposables just for special occasions. Eventually I got a Canon Powershot andwhen I realized my potential for creating great compositions and seeing my brother use my pictures for his wedding invitations, I took things to another level when I purchased a Digital Rebel XS.

Being a Social Photographer means that people are my favorite subject and I provide photo services for anyone who wants to create memories that will last for generations.
